Software driver FAQ for WavePRO hardware
Here's a list of frequently asked questions about software drivers for Gadget Labs WavePRO audio interfaces and operating system drivers for Windows, Mac, and other new developments.
1: Will you be releasing any other driver updates?
2: Do all of the WavePRO products work under Windows NT 4.0? How about Windows 2000?
3: Do the WavePRO products work with Windows Millennium (ME)?
4: What operating systems do your digital I/O option cards support?
5: What if I am using Windows 95 and do not want to upgrade to Windows 98 or 2000? Will I still be supported?6: What about Macintosh? Will you be adding Digital I/O support to the Mac?
7: Do the Macintosh drivers support OS 9? What about support for G4 systems?
8: What's the best operating system to use with the WavePRO hardware?
1: Will you be releasing any driver updates?
No, Gadget Labs has ceased its business and there will be no further development
2: Do all of the WavePRO products work under Windows NT 4.0? How about Windows 2000?
Yes. All of our WavePRO products have an NT driver available. These drivers are also compatible with Windows 2000, but there are some special steps that are required to get this to work. Click here for more info.
3: Do the WavePRO products work with Windows Millennium (ME)?
Yes. Since Windows ME is built upon the same architecture as Windows 95 and 98, our current Windows drivers work just fine with Windows ME.
4: What operating systems do your digital I/O option cards support?
The ADAT and S/PDIF option cards work with all WavePRO products under Windows 95/98 and Millennium. The Wave/824 is the only WavePRO device that currently support S/PDIF support under Windows NT and 2000. An NT driver with ADAT support for the Wave/824 is planned for Q3 2000.
The ADAT and S/PDIF cards are not supported for the Macintosh.
5: What if I am using Windows 95 and do not want to upgrade to Windows 98 or 2000? Will I still be supported?
Yes, Gadget Labs will support customers using Windows 95. But, all of our future drivers for Windows 9x architecture will only run on Windows 98 SE and later. For example, GigaSampler support will be implemented with the WDM driver and WDM only works with Windows 98SE, Windows ME and Windows 2000.
6: What about Macintosh? Will you be adding Digital I/O support to the Mac?
No, unfortunately we have had very little demand for Mac versions of these features and we cannot proceed with development.
7: Do the Macintosh drivers support OS 9? What about the G4 systems?
Yes, the current WavePRO ASIO and OMS drivers support both OS9 and the G4 systems.
Note regarding G4 systems: due to mechanical shortcomings in Apple's implementation of the PCI card interface standard, the Wave/424 input connections are blocked by the G4 computer cabinet. The Wave/424 works great in G3 systems. The Wave/824 and Wave/496 work great with both G3 and G4 systems.
8: What's the best operating system to use with the WavePRO hardware?
If you are looking for ease of installation, ultimate software compatibility and software synthesizer support then your best choice is to use Windows 98 or ME. Windows NT 4.0 is solid for audio-only work and works with most 32-bit audio recording programs. But, the MIDI timing in NT is not nearly as good as Windows 98, and most popular software synthesizers (i.e., GigaSampler, Retro, Reaktor, etc.,) are not compatible with NT. Windows NT also requires more RAM than Windows 98 to run smoothly and is more difficult to learn and install. Windows 2000 is really only a new version of NT, so like NT, MIDI timing isn't as good and little or no soft synth support is available.
Before upgrading to 2000, we strongly advise that you check all of your hardware and software for compatibility. This can be done from Microsoft's website at http://www.microsoft.com/windows2000/default.asp . Once your hardware and software is compatible and capable of working with Windows 2000, one can expect more reliability, stability, and improved performance.
